Final Exam

Good afternoon everyone. For those of you who don't know, for your final exam you will be creating a fact sheet and flyer about Rain Barrels. Please check out the blog post and video about rain barrels to start preparing for the exam.

Paper plates instead of plastic ones.

I had the idea that paper plates would be more eco friendly than plastic plates. I'm aware that deforestation is occuring as a result of the demand for paper products but, we are not large enough to change that. So, I believe switching to paper plates would be a good step.

For example, a quick look on the web for cheap plates resulted this:

Reminder

Good afternoon everyone. Just a reminder that your memos are due on Friday. Please make sure to ask questions and conduct research so you can be ready to write! Also, as mentioned in class, please focus on three ideas in your memo. I'm still waiting for the information about energy and water use as well as building dimensions and square footage, but there's a lot you can still write about.

See you tomorrow.

Suggestion

Steve S. suggested that you contact some of the companies you're researching and give them a link to our blog. You can ask if they have any suggestions or further information which could help our project. This might also be helpful once we start working towards putting together specifics for the plan, getting bids for the job, and requesting funding.

Insulating paint

Everyone was asking about the paint with the R-19 insulation rating. There's a link to the right of the page "Super Therm" where you can watch a Youtube video.

WIND MILL

i think wind mills woulds be a good idea for extrea power and the mills could be made out of cheap materals
I think we should all start spreading the word so everybody else in the school can also work on helping the school be more green.

Bird Houses

We could possibly take the scrap wood from the shops, in stead of throwing them away we could make bird houses or something out of them.

Pervious concrete =D

Something that our school should look into is pervious concrete. It would be a great way for us to contribute to the environment. It reduces harmful runoff and helps to filter storm water because of its high porosity. It allows water to drain into the ground unlike blacktop that we are using now.
Green roofs maybe? even though the only roof we can put it on is the foote building rood
